Before you ask
Questions people ask
Have you worked in Milton Keynes before?
Yes. We replaced a whole slate roof in MK5 in a single day, and Milton Keynes is a regular part of our patch from Bedford.
My Milton Keynes house has a flat roof that keeps leaking. What are my options?
We replace old felt flat roofs with GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber. Both are far more durable than felt. We will look at the deck underneath and tell you which suits your roof.
Do you cover all of Milton Keynes?
Yes, MK1 to MK15, including Bletchley, Wolverton, Stony Stratford and the estates in between.
Ready when you are
It takes about 30 seconds to ask, and you are not committing to anything.
More about roofing in Milton Keynes
Milton Keynes, west on the A421
Milton Keynes is half an hour west of Bedford along the A421, and it is a city we work in. We re-slated a whole roof in MK5 in a single day, and we cover MK1 to MK15, from the old towns to the grid-square estates.
A new town with old towns inside it
Milton Keynes was designated a new town in 1967, and most of its housing went up in the 1970s and 80s, estate by estate between the grid roads. It also took in older places like Wolverton, Stony Stratford and Bletchley, so the roofs here run the full range:
- Wolverton and the older towns: Victorian terraces in slate, with chimneys and lead valleys.
- The 1970s and 80s estates: concrete tile roofs that are now old enough for the original felt and battens to be failing, plus some estates built with flat or low-pitched roofs.
- The newer areas: modern roofs where the jobs are mostly ridges, verges and gutters.
Roofs of the new-town years
A lot of what we do in Milton Keynes is putting right roofs from that first building boom. Typical work:
- Strip the old tiles or slates and the perished felt.
- Replace any rotten battens or rafters.
- Fit a breathable membrane, treated battens and counter-battens.
- Re-cover in new tile or slate, with a dry ridge and dry verge.
- Top up the loft insulation to 300mm or more while the roof is open.
Flat roofs get replaced in GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber, which last far longer than the old felt.
