Before you ask
Questions people ask
Do you cover Bury St Edmunds from Bedford?
Yes, but it is the far edge of our area. Ring 01234 634 016 and we will tell you honestly whether we can help with your job and how soon.
Can you remove cavity wall insulation from a house near Bury?
Yes. We inspect the cavity with cameras first, then remove the insulation so the walls can dry out. It is the kind of job that makes the trip worthwhile.
My house is timber-framed with a brick front. Can you work on the roof?
Tell us about the building when you call. Older frames move, so we look carefully before quoting and make sure the repair suits the structure.
Ready when you are
It takes about 30 seconds to ask, and you are not committing to anything.
More about roofing in Bury St Edmunds
Bury St Edmunds is the eastern edge of our patch
Bury St Edmunds is a long way east of Bedford, out along the A14, and it marks the far edge of the area we cover. We do cover it, but we would rather be honest about the distance than promise what we cannot do. Ring 01234 634 016, tell us about the roof, and we will tell you straight whether we can take it on and when.
Abbey town
Bury grew up around its great abbey, and the town centre still follows the medieval grid of streets laid out by the monks. Many of the buildings that look Georgian from the street are older timber-framed houses behind a later brick front. Roofs on buildings like that are rarely straightforward: the frame may have moved, the roof lines are uneven, and a repair has to suit the old structure rather than fight it.
The jobs that suit the trip
Because Bury is a long run for us, we are best placed for the larger jobs:
- Full re-roofs on houses where the felt and battens have failed across the whole roof.
- Spray foam removal where it is stopping a sale or a remortgage.
- Cavity wall insulation removal where old insulation is causing damp. We have done this work in West Norfolk, inspecting first with cavity cameras.
- Leadwork in Code 4 and Code 5 lead, including welded gutters and aprons.
Listed buildings
Much of the centre is in a conservation area and plenty of buildings are listed. Check with the council before work starts if you are changing anything. We will give you a full written description of what we propose.
