Before you ask
Questions people ask
Is my cavity wall insulation causing my damp?
It can, but not always. Damp can come from gutters, the roof or pointing just as easily. We inspect the cavity with a camera and check the outside of the house before we say what is causing it.
How do you know what is inside the cavity?
We put a camera into the cavity through a small opening. It shows us the insulation, any gaps or slumping, and any debris bridging the two walls.
My insulation has a guarantee. Should I call you or the installer?
Contact the installer or the guarantee provider first, as the guarantee may cover the problem. If it does not, or the installer has gone, we can help.
Will the damp go once the insulation is removed?
Only if whatever is wetting the wall is fixed too. That is why we check the gutters, roof edge and pointing and repair them as part of the job.
Ready when you are
It takes about 30 seconds to ask, and you are not committing to anything.
More about cavity wall insulation removal
Failed cavity insulation found, removed and the cause fixed
Damp patches on inside walls, cold spots, mould behind furniture. Sometimes the cause is cavity wall insulation that has got wet, slumped or been fitted in a wall that was never suitable. Sometimes it is something else entirely. Before anything comes out, we look inside the cavity with a camera so we know what is really there.
Because we are roofers, we also check what is feeding water into the wall. Overflowing gutters, a leaking roof edge or worn pointing can soak a wall, and if that is not fixed, new insulation will fail too.
What's included
Cavity camera inspection
A camera goes into the cavity through a small opening, so we can see the condition of the insulation, any gaps, and any debris bridging the cavity.
Checking the cause of the damp
We look at the gutters, downpipes, roof edge and pointing above the damp area, and photograph anything that is letting water in.
Check for a guarantee
If your insulation has a guarantee, we will suggest you contact the installer or the guarantee provider first. It may cover the work.
Removing the insulation
The failed insulation is taken out of the cavity and bagged, and the cavity is cleared of debris.
Making good
Any openings made in the wall are filled and pointed to match, and the site is left clean.
Fixing what caused it
Leaking gutters, roof edges and flashings put right, so the wall can dry out and stay dry.
Why we check the roof as well as the wall
A wall gets wet from the top as often as from the side. Gutters that overflow, a roof edge that lets water in or flashing that has lifted will keep soaking the brickwork whatever is in the cavity. Fixing those is roofing work, which is what we do every day.

- We show you the footage and photos, and explain what we think is happening.
