Before you ask
Questions people ask
Which flat roof material is best?
There isn't one answer. GRP suits roofs with awkward edges or regular foot traffic, EPDM suits simple shapes, and felt is a sound traditional choice. We pick for your roof and explain why on the quote.
Can my flat roof be repaired instead of replaced?
Sometimes. A split or a lifted edge on an otherwise sound roof can be repaired. If the deck is soft or the covering has failed across the roof, a repair won't last and we'll tell you so.
Can you put an opening skylight in a flat roof?
Yes. We fit opening skylights into flat roofs, and doing it while the roof is being replaced is the simplest way. Tell us when we come out to quote.
Ready when you are

More about flat roofs in Peterborough
Flat roofs on Peterborough homes
Walk round any estate in the city and you'll see them: single-storey kitchen extensions, garages on the side of the house, flat-topped dormers, porches and garden offices. Most were felted when they went up. Once felt blisters, cracks or starts holding puddles, patching it tends to buy months rather than years.
Three systems, and how we pick one
Felt
The traditional choice and still a sound one on a well-prepared deck. It suits simple roofs and is easy to repair later.
GRP fibreglass
Laid as one continuous skin with no seams. It gives a hard finish that copes with being walked on for maintenance and handles awkward shapes and edges well.
EPDM rubber
A single sheet of rubber membrane with few or no joins. It's flexible and works well on straightforward shapes like garages and extensions.
We'll tell you which we'd put on your roof and why, then price it in writing.
Signs a flat roof has had its day
- Water still standing on it a day after rain
- Blisters, splits or cracks in the surface
- Damp stains on the ceiling underneath
- A soft, spongy feel to the deck
- Moss or weeds growing in the joints
What we check underneath
A new covering is only as good as what it sits on. Before we quote we look at:
- The decking boards, for rot and movement
- The fall, so water runs to the gutter instead of sitting
- Where the roof meets the house wall, and the lead flashing there
- Edge trims, gutters and outlets
Adding light while the roof is off
Replacing a flat roof is the easiest time to bring in daylight. On one workshop roof we fitted four opening skylights as part of the new covering, and the space underneath went from gloomy to bright. If you're thinking about a roof light over a kitchen extension, ask while we're quoting.
Tidy from start to finish
A flat roof job usually means working right over a kitchen, a garage full of belongings or a garden office. We sheet off what's underneath, keep the old covering in the skip rather than on your lawn, and clear up at the end of every day. The work comes with our written company guarantee, and we're fully insured.
