Before you ask

Questions people ask

Do you really come up from Bedford for a Peterborough re-roof?

Yes. Peterborough is part of our patch and we've already replaced a roof in PE1. We cover PE1 to PE4 and PE7, and a re-roof is planned so the team is on site every working day until it's done.

Who sorts out Building Control on a new roof?

We do. We arrange the Building Control inspection and sign-off on our re-roofs, and it sits on the itemised quote from the start so you know it is covered.

Can you match the tiles on the rest of my terrace?

We look at the houses either side before anything is ordered. On a terrace, a roof that stands out from its neighbours looks wrong, so we'll talk you through the options that sit right next to them.

Ready when you are

It takes about 30 seconds to ask, and you are not committing to anything.

More about roof replacement in Peterborough

We've already re-roofed in PE1

We're based in Bedford, and Peterborough is a straight run up the A1 for us. We've replaced a roof in PE1, close to the city centre, so this isn't a city we're guessing about. If your roof is past the point where patching makes sense, we'll come out, go up, take photos and talk you through what we find.

Peterborough roofs and why they wear out

The city grew in two big waves, and the roofs show it.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces

The streets near the centre are mostly slate or clay tile over timbers that have done a long shift. Some still have no membrane at all, or an early felt that has turned brittle and torn.

The new town estates

Bretton, Orton and Werrington grew fast after Peterborough was made a new town in 1967. Many of those houses still carry their first concrete tiles and the felt laid under them. By now that felt is often sagging or split at the eaves, which is where damp patches on bedroom ceilings come from.

Every cost on the quote, not just a total

Customers tell us our quotes are the most detailed they get. We itemise the lot, so nothing turns up later:

  • Scaffold, up and down
  • Tiles or slate, membrane, battens and fixings
  • The skip
  • A portable toilet for the team on a full re-roof
  • Building Control sign-off, which we arrange for you

What goes on under the new covering

  1. Strip to the rafters and check every timber, swapping out any that are rotten.
  2. Breathable membrane, BBA-approved, or TLX Gold insulated membrane where it suits the loft.
  3. Treated battens, with counter-battens where the build calls for them.
  4. Dry ridge and dry verge systems, so there's no mortar left to crack and drop out.
  5. Eaves support trays, so the membrane can't sag and hold water at the gutter line.
  6. Loft insulation topped up to 300mm or more while the roof is open.

Concrete or clay tiles, natural Spanish slate or man-made slate: we'll tell you what suits the house and the street, and why. The finished roof comes with a written company guarantee. If you have any problems, we come back and fix the fault.
