Before you ask
Questions people ask
Can a skylight in a flat roof open?
Yes. We fit opening skylights in flat roofs, which let in air as well as light. The simplest time to add one is when the roof is being replaced.
Why has water started pooling on my flat roof?
Usually because the deck has sagged, often from rot, or because the roof was laid without enough fall. Pooling speeds up wear on the covering, so it is worth a look.
Can you do a flat roof and a pitched roof in the same job?
Yes. If both need work, doing them together shares the scaffold and skip, and it all goes on one itemised quote.

More about flat roofs in Huntingdon
More light, fewer leaks
One of the flat roofs we're proudest of is a workshop where we fitted four opening skylights as part of the new roof. The space went from dark to bright, and the roof stopped leaking. Most Huntingdon flat roofs are simpler than that: a kitchen extension, a garage, a porch or a dormer. The approach is the same. Sort the leak properly, and think about whether the roof could do more for the room below.
A flat roof, layer by layer
- The old covering comes off and goes straight into the skip.
- The deck is checked. Sound boards stay. Soft, bowed or rotten ones are replaced.
- The fall is checked, so rain runs to the gutter instead of pooling.
- The new covering goes on: GRP, EPDM or felt.
- Upstands and lead flashings are finished where the roof meets the house wall.
- Edge trims, gutters and outlets are fitted so water leaves the roof cleanly.
- Skylights, if you want them, are built in as part of the job.
Felt, GRP or EPDM: the short version
- GRP fibreglass: hard, one continuous layer, copes with foot traffic and fiddly detail.
- EPDM rubber: one flexible sheet, very few joins, suits simple shapes.
- Felt: traditional, sound on a good deck, easy to repair.
We'll tell you which suits your roof and why.
Patch or replace?
Not every leaking flat roof needs replacing. A single split, a lifted trim or a blocked outlet can be repaired. The signs a roof is finished are different:
- Puddles that sit for days
- Cracking or blistering across the whole surface
- A deck that feels soft when you press it
- Repeated leaks in different places
We'll show you photos and tell you straight which side of the line yours is on.
Clean, tidy and covered
A flat roof job is often right over a room you use every day. We sheet off what's underneath, clear up every day and leave the site tidy. Flat roofs carry our written company guarantee, and we're fully insured.
If you have any problems with the roof after we have gone, ring us and we will come back and fix the fault. That applies to a small porch roof as much as a large workshop.
